Midjourney, known for AI image generation, has announced Midjourney Medical: a full-body imaging device called Ultrasonic CT that uses sound waves and a water submersion ring embedded with ~500,000 grain-of-sand-sized sensors to produce a 3D body map in under 60 seconds. Founder David Holz calls it 'the first new whole-body medical imaging modality in 50 years,' targeting MRI-comparable resolution at nearly 100x the speed. The Gen 1 prototype currently takes ~20 minutes due to bandwidth and infrastructure bottlenecks, with roughly a dozen people scanned so far by a nine-person team. If realized at scale, this could make routine whole-body scanning as accessible and fast as a routine health check.
