SpaceX officially unveiled its AI1 satellite, the first generation of its space-based AI compute platform featuring 150 kW peak compute payload, 70-meter wingspan, and 110 m² deployable liquid radiator cooling system. The satellite uses SpaceX-manufactured solar technology from Bastrop, Texas and leverages Starlink V3 satellite technology with interchangeable compute providers. According to Elon Musk, the AI satellite is simpler to design than Starlink satellites, essentially consisting of solar cells and laser links without complex antennas. This represents a major push toward orbital AI infrastructure that could leverage space's abundant solar energy and radiative cooling for high-power compute workloads.
